For 37 years, Warren "Whitey" Whitehouse plied his trade as an official for the Eastern Connecticut Board of Approved Football Officials. Working at all levels, he became one of the top varsity officials on the ECBAFO roster, and was called upon to do many crucial games and playoff-deciding contests. Sports has always been a part of his life, and he has worked as a coach, most recently as the sub-varsity softball coach at East Lyme High School, and has been cited by his peers for his many contributions. Besides working a full slate of games for the Eastern Board, Whitehouse has been tapped to work eight CIAC playoff games, including two semis and six finals. Like many of our recipients, he has contributed to the good and order of his association by taking many committee assignments and working on the ECBAFO executive board. He served as the organization's president in 1994. He has also worked on the Better Officiating Committee, and served on the committee that chooses the yearly Noonan Award (for the high school serviced by the organization that promotes sportsmanship). He is also a member of the Southeastern Connecticut Chapter of the National Football Foundation & Hall of Fame. Among the awards received by Whitehouse are: a citation from the Southeast Connecticut Football Conference for his work as a head coach; Coach of the Year by the East Lyme High School Booster Club; the Sportsmanship Award from the Connecticut Sportswriters Alliance; an award for his work as assistant softball coach by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association; and is a former winner of the Vincent J. Reilly Distinguished Service Award. He has been married to his wife, Virginia for 49 years, and the couple has two sons, Scott and Stephen, and two grandchildren.
